Industrial Relations | Funeral Services, FionaSloman
For many years I was a union officer dealing with all sorts of disputes both individual and collective. I spent a great deal of time dealing with individual cases, taking them from grievance and disciplinary through to employment tribunal’s and various other legislative bodies. I gave evidence to select committees of both the House of Commons and the House of Lords, ran campaigns, lobbied Parliament, and generally tried to intervene to help my members.
Today, sadly, many employees are not in a trade union and if they ever get into trouble, which happens to most people at one time during their career, they are left floundering with no support. My expertise in employment matters can help at this time, speaking to your employer, negotiating a way out, of the problem, and generally just listening and being able to decide what is important to your case. And what just needs to be listened to.
I currently provide industrial relations advice for a very large international company, and regularly attend meetings on their behalf with trade unions and other organisations.
I also provide individual support to employees, who just need a bit of advice, maybe just telling them that they do not have a case, or even progressing that case, to employment tribunal.
I’m a trained counsellor and mediator, a TUC tutor and peripatetic tutor for Ruskin College.
I think it’s important that people are supported in the workplace and that they have somewhere to turn to for advice; because of this I am comparatively inexpensive, and I’m prepared to take on work for individuals and small companies (they are often in the position of not understanding the law and not knowing where to go for reliable advice), as I specialise in employment law. I hopeI can provide such advice.
